I chose to stay here and start my life here as I knew it would only get harder the longer I waited.

In my opinion, another main problem is that children aren't taught that an easy life is not necessarily a good life. Americans value comfort and convenience over everything else, and we continue to raise our children in this dangerous cycle. We must teach our children that good things are not necessarily easy and that hard work and perseverance will take you a lot further in life.

Living in Eretz Yisroel might not be the easiest thing to do, but it is definitely the best thing to do.

Sincerely,

Shirashiranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6632780905673890724.post-43872590355852569352010-04-25T07:25:18.251+03:002010-04-25T07:25:18.251+03:00Rina and David,

It's hard to characterize you as Chutzpadick--sorry. I heard a lot of love and passion in your message.

As you say, we postpone the decisions to make Aliyah when we're young adults and then we just perpetuate the cycle by raising our kids in the US. Our good friends were wise enough to make the move to Israel when their kids were young. One of them recently told me, "I thank Hashem everyday that my parents made the difficult move to Israel. I have loved being raised here and living here."

I think of you guys every time I pass your parent's house, Renee. It's so hard to leave loved ones behind. Not to mention that your children are in the states. That's where your Chutzpah and tenacity really show.

Perhaps you will be the model of strength and committment that will motivate more of us to follow in your footsteps!!!!

Hope you have a wonderful Shabbos.
Mashanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6632780905673890724.post-73099333703998259762010-04-19T23:58:56.762+03:002010-04-19T23:58:56.762+03:00I think by nature human beings don't like chan...I think by nature human beings don't like change. I think you have to be able to take that leap of faith to move - even in the same town. You and David are unique - you took that leap of faith and went home. In my heart, I want to, but a lot of things that are important to me get in the way.

And, what about our boys? We would not object if they moved to Israel and they know that, but they need to go on their own paths just as we did.

I didn't mind your chutzpa at all - I had to chuckle though - it was still laced with Southern grace! You have some work on it!

We are blessed to have you all in Israel and sending your reports and your thoughts back to us. When you sent the video of the rain on your porch and thanked us for helping pray for rain in Israel, it had incredible meaning to me. I sent on the video to a number of my friends, I even sent it on to a teacher at Weber who shared it with her class. You made Israel so close.
