Enlightening Experience In Israel #739

Buying a light at a lighting store in Talpiot. The sales person was a muscular 20-something shaved head Israeli. The light we chose did not come with a wire and a plug. Imagine that.

Lighting Store Guy (LSG): "You just go to my neighbor (a combination odds and ends/hardware/home shop next door to the light store) and he'll have it. You buy it from him."
David: skeptical "I'm not feelin' good about this."
LSG: Not good about what?
David: Who buys a light without a cord?
LSG: That's how we do it here.
David: Boy, do I hear that a lot. I'm still not feeling good about this.
LSG: What? You have to trust.
David: I trust Hashem.
LSG: In Israel, we all believe in G-d.

David pays and we leave, but he mutters all the way to the lighting store guy's neighbor that he doesn't feel good about this. Wouldn't you know it, he walks in to the store and there is the exact cord and plug he needs right in front.

I guess you just have to trust.

You have know idea how much trouble and heartache blog posts like this have saved me. Besides getting a good chuckle, I "know the ropes" before I walk into the store. Thank you.
